Description: 96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This is a USED Citizen Astrodea AGE OF THE MOON watch in Titanium. The Astrodea line (see chart) is perhaps the most sought after astronomy watch line due to their limited releases of a few hundred per model. The Age of the Moon center disc indicates the relative POSITION and PHASE of the moon, and rotates independently from the main dial containing 11 lunar phases and an analemma. The analemma represents the SUN across all 12 months (see macro photograph). This is perhaps the only watch that indicates the positions of the sun and moon, far beyond a simple moonphase. It includes cardinal stars (ex. Sirius and Arcturus), local sidereal time, and astronomical twilight - all rotating in true time in relation to the sky! This is truly a legendary astronomy watch, and absurdly rare to find. It is surprisingly an amazing astronomy tool. I use the analemma to predict sunrise/meridian/sunset times, and the moon age to determine good dates for telescope nights. There are minute scratches on the case back expected of a decade old watch. The dial is amazingly sharp. The sapphire glass is also perfect! Only the Astrodea watch and bracelet are included. Please ask me any questions or to request additional photos. If you want, I can set the Moon Age disc for you. ***Instructions for setting the Astrodea, a simplified interpretation.*** 1) Find the time the sun is at the highest point in the sky (time at meridian). For instance, let?s say it?s 12:00pm (noon). Set the hour and minute hands at 12:00. 2) Now, rotate the lunar phases dial (this moves independently from the time setting) so that the analemma (figure-8 pattern) moves through the meridian line on the watch (the center line on the Astrodrea grid). Note that the analemma is labeled #1-12, which indicates the position of the sun on the first of each month. For instance, Dec 16th is indicated on the analemna between #12 and #1. Congratulations, the Astrodea reads ?at 12:00pm, the sun will be at the meridian on Dec 16th, 2017.? 3) Now, let?s set the most beautiful part of the Astrodea (the age of the Moon and its lunar phases). The Full Moon is opposite of the New Moon (also represented by the analemma!). Between the New/Full moons are the waxing and waning moons. 4) Look online for the ?moon age.? The Moon waxes at ages 0-15, hitting a Full Moon at age 15, then the Moon wanes from ages 15-30 to reach a New Moon at age 0/30. It takes 29.5 days for a full moon cycle (which is also how long it takes the Age of the Moon disc to revolve once!). To set the Age of the Moon disc (also rotates interpedently of time) use the crown until the arrow points at the appropriate moon age, then set the lunar phases dial to position the analemma at meridian (set #2), so it matches with the 12:00pm of the hour and minute hands (step #1). Comments: #1 This is perhaps the most elegant (and useful) implementation of an analemma ever on a timepiece, hopefully these instructions prove this. #2 The top half of the Astrodea sapphire glass has a grid to represent the total visible sky at 35N latitude. It can be used for lunar and solar positions. The center line is the meridian line. The left side represents the Eastern horizon (you can get sunrise time here). The right side represents the Western horizon (you can get sunset time here). #3 I've used a 43N latitude version before, and it was accurate enough. So, your location may be off from 35N latitude but the lunar and solar readings will still be great. #4 I use Orion's planetarium software to find meridian times for my location. I suggest Stellarium for a free astronomy program. You can also google sunrise/sunset times and set the watch using the left/right side of the grid. Using meridian time is more accurate since you can position the analemma on the center line. Using the Astrodea you can determine: ? Moon age/phase ? Tidal ebb and flow (determined by moon age) ? Altitude and direction of the Moon ? Altitude and direction of the Sun. ? ?Spring? and ?neap? tides related to lunar positions ? Astronomical twilight ? The altitudes and directions of Sirius and Arcturus ? Local sidereal time (the hour angle of the vernal equinox) ? And MORE! Specifications: ? Hard-coated titanium case ? Lunar phase indication period: 29.52 days ? Battery size: 1 SR626SW ? Battery life: 3 years ? Case diameter: Approximately 37.8mm ? Case thickness: Approximately 9.9mm ? Waterproof to 3 atmospheres ? Non-reflective sapphire glass
