Description: Note: I am not an expert in this subject, I only know what Iresearched online and used my best judgment. This is an original medal with good relief on both sides. (Thefront pic is a little dark.) I have NOT polished it, that is up to the buyer.Looking at images online it would appear that it can polish up very nicely. The medal is for the September 1892 GAR encampment inWashington, DC. A portrait of General Philip Sheridan is on one side, and GARemblems and encampment info on the other. This badge is a souvenir from the Grand Army of theRepublic, or the G.A.R. The G.A.R. was founded in 1866 for men who had servedin the Union Army. The ribbon appears not to be the original, and the originalhad a top bar that is missing on this one. The large metal ring connecting themedal to the ribbon does appear to be original, as it shows up in variouspictures online. A full medal consisting of the medal, ribbon – yet a veryshattered ribbon - and top bar is going for $399, thus I think this is a veryfair price. Let me know if you have anyquestions.
