NOTE: This unit is designated as 3D because it has the appropriate license from Convergent Design installed. With the appropriate cables — and two of these boxes — one can record in stereo from two cameras. The 3D mode can be switched on/off and the box used in normal 2D mode, of course. I would imagine that you could also acquire the 3D license from Convergent Design to use with a second unit, such as my other one. nanoFlash from Convergent Design records video, audio and timecode from an HD-SDI stream onto CompactFlash (CF) cards, employing the high quality Sony 4:2:2 MPEG2 codec for compression. The camera-mountable nanoFlash, a miniaturized version of the award winning Flash XDR, has two CF card slots and embedded audio support only. nanoFlash can be powered from a camcorder battery (6.5-20VDC) and records 1080i60/50, 1080p30/25/24 or 720p60/50 at full raster (1920 x 1080i/p and 1280x720p) 4:2:2 MPEG2 at 50/100 Mbps (Long GOP) or 100/160 Mbps (I Frame only). As both a recorder and player, nanoFlash sports HD-SDI I/O as well as LTC in, wired remote control and a power/start/tally light connector. Unlike FireWire based hard disk recorders, which merely copy the native camera video quality, nanoFlash can encode a live camera's "never compressed" HD SDI output to a much higher quality, higher bitrate with less compression, eliminating most of the mosquito noise and blurring artifacts. Full raster 1920x1080 (as opposed to 1440x1080 or 1280x1080) processing, coupled with 4:2:2 color (instead of 4:2:0), greatly improves horizontal resolution as well as keying and compositing operations. CONDITION: - 100% working, no issues whatsoever (except as noted with regard to firmware)- NEW internal non-user-accessible battery (professionally installed 3/12/22 = good for 5-10 years) - normal marks of wear & tear on case and screen- IMPORTANT OPERATING NOTE: This unit has FW 1.6.246 installed which as the last version for the 3D variant. The last FW released for the non-3D model was 1.6.248. The only bug I have noticed with the installed FW is that if hit PLAY a clip, the unit is caught in a PLAY ALL loop, despite that option being unselected. It is not a big deal as all you have to do is unplug the power from the unit and plug back in. (There is no on/off switch so this is perfectly safe.)- the screws holding the 3D bracket onto the case had stripped heads so they had to be drilled out (as can be seen in the photos).
