Corolla yellowish-claret, with red veins, bell-shaped, fleshy, 4-6 cm long. Flowers bloom in the evening and are pollinated by bats. It blooms almost all year round under favorable conditions. The fruit is spherical or pear-shaped, 7-10 cm in diameter, with a hard woody shell. The pulp of ripe fruits is blackish-purple, with a pungent fruity odor and a large number of seeds.
