Description: DESCRIPTION: Hannibal's Dwarf is a dainty plant. We have had up to 12 flowers (usually 8-10) beautiful, pink, narrow petaled, blooms that open on up to 28" tall scapes (usually about 18"). All of the blooms usually open within two days. This hybrid bulb does not form seeds, but a mature bulb can regularly produce 10 offsets in one year, forming a nice, compact clump if left undisturbed for several years. Green, strap-like foliage remains very attractive all season, unlike some varieties, and usually does not grow more than 15" long. These small bulbs can live for decades and can grow up to 2 1/2" in diameter, making a great addition to the garden or crinum collection. BACKGROUND: Les Hannibal, and later Thad Howard, hybridized this bulb from C. americanum X C. Moorei "mouse." GROWING CONDITIONS: Dwarf will thrive in sun to light shade and blooms from May-December in zone 9. This is a very hardy and easy to grow bulb requiring no special care. It tolerates a wide range of soils and extended dry periods. It will tolerate freezing weather to at least zone 7, with mulch. Bulbs can survive nicely out of the soil for very extended periods if allowed to dry. They do best if planted in the ground, but due to their compact size, they will also make an excellent container plant. We grow over 1000 different crinum including about 350 of our own hybrids, and these will fit into just about any small area. They multiply so rapidly and can form an impressive area planting, or border, after just a few years. Whether you have a small area, or want to divide them to form a low ground-cover of crinum that would keep out the weeds, this would be a great choice. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on ONE large, near blooming-size bulb at least 4 years old and about 1- 1 1/2" in diameter that should bloom within 1 year. Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves. In the winter months the leaves may be absent.
