Description: DESCRIPTION: "Hawaiian Lily" is similar to Princess Elizabeth, a smaller version of Powellii Album that blooms April & May. Because it does not start blooming until about a month later, we are about convinced that it is actually another unknown hybrid. Ours have produced 21 blooms on 36" tall scapes and bulb just over 5" in diameter. Our original bulb was purchased in 2005. It formed about 20 offsets in the first 6 years, so is what would be called a moderate offsetting bulb. It has fragrant, pure white, very attractive trumpets with sturdy scapes. We grow over 1000 different crinum including about 350 of our own hybrids. This is a very reliable bulb. BACKGROUND: This bulb was introduced a few years ago by another EBay seller who obtained it from a gardener in CA. This gardener had obseved the bulb in Hawaii for about 20 years before bringing one back to San Francisco about 1960. He grew them there for another 40 years and called them his "Hawaiian Lily." We are in agreement with the seller that the likely parentage is C. bulbispermum (seed parent) and C. powellii album (pollen parent). This hybrid is seed sterile but most likely pollen fertile. GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Flowers appear as early as late April and continue for a couple of months. This is a very hardy, prolific and easy to grow bulb requiring no special care. It tolerates a wide range of soils (but prefers rich soil), extended dry periods, and will tolerate freezing weather to zone 7, possibly zone 6, if the bulb is planted deeply and mulched in the winter. Bulbs can survive nicely out of the ground for very extended periods if allowed to dry. They prefer full sun, but partial shade is OK. They will also make excellent, large container plants. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on a Medium-size bulb at least 2 years old and about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. It will bloom in about 2 years. They don't like being disturbed, so it could take one year to "settle in." Bulbs will be freshly dug and shipped bare root. WEI SIZE OUR BULBS APPROXIMATELY BY AGE AS FOLLOWS: A few varieties can take 6 years or more to bloom.
