Crinum Lily, Rose Parade, small-size bulb, NEW

Description: DESCRIPTION: Rose Parade is very rare and normally only traded among advanced crinum collectors. This is one of the darkest and largest reds that we grow in our collection of over 1000 different crinum including about 350 of our own hybrids. It is superior to Ellen Bosanquet, taller, darker, and with a longer blooming season, typically June and July. Our largest bulb has produced 18 flowers on a 34" tall scape and the bulbs are in excess of 6" in diameter with leaves over 4' long. Mature bulbs produce several offsets per year. BACKGROUND: (Ellen Bosanquet fertilized with crinum moorei pollen) This bulb was hybridized by the famous Barry Clark who lives in LA. Over the years he has produced some very nice hybrid crinum varieties. We only know of 2 other sources for this bulb. Bulbs slightly larger than what is being offered here have sold for $60 (Marcelle's Crinum) and $45 for a small, one year offsets (Odyssey Bulbs). GROWING CONDITIONS: They require a large space to sprawl. This bulb, when it matures will form offsets for you and easily fill a space three feet square in 3-4 years. Here, in the cooler part of zone 9, it survives temperatures into the low 20's and is often blooming as early as late May and continues steadily for several months. They can take full sun and a variety of soil types, and, like most crinum, are very drought tolerant. We expect it to do well outside as cool as zone 7 and it will make an excellent, large container plant in climates below zone 7 where they need protection in the winter. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on a small-size bulb about 1" in diameter which should bloom within 3 years. Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves March-November. In the winter months the leaves may be absent. WE SIZE OUR BULBS APPROXIMATELY BY AGE AS FOLLOWS: A few varieties can take 6 years or more to bloom. Jumbo bulb – has bloomed at least 2 years, close to the maximum size for that particular plant (6+ years old)Large bulb - should bloom this year or next (3+ years old, close to, or at blooming size) Medium bulb - should bloom in 1-2 years (at least 2 years old) Small bulb - should bloom 2-4 years (current year or 1-2 year old offset) Seedling bulb - started from seed (usually in its first year of growth unless otherwise stated) PHOTOS/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: These are pictures of our plants, so you know exactly what they look like and what you will receive.
