Description: For your consideration is a genuine original Currier and Ives stone lithograph of "The Season of Blossoms". There are some later reprints of these, not many originals floating around. The image measures 14" x 9-1/4", the frame measures 17-1/2" x 14-1/2". As shown, the original watercolors have faded severely. This was procured from a New England Victorian Estate and was likely on display subject to sunlight for over a century. On the bright side, when this was framed it was properly-sealed and unlike many Currier and Ives prints the paper did not succumb to water damage or much foxing. These medium folios were typically lower cost and thus not protected as well as the pricey large folios, and the majority of medium and small folios that come to market have much more deterioration. Comes framed, with a very faint marking from "Fitzpatrick Book and Art" in Holyoke Massachusetts on the back of the frame. Being local I've done some research and found they were in business around 1883-1920, so the frame dates to around then. Fun excerpt I found in researching: "The Fitzgerald Book and Art Company, Holyoke, Mass was organized June 15 and is to be incorporated. This means that Daniel J. Fitzgerald, dean in the book trade in Holyoke, has taken into partnership two young men whom he has trained up from their boyhood until the are now experienced book and picture men. Frank Buckley is an expert in the book and news and other business of a bookstore and Daniel Waters knows the picture and framing end of the business. Both are very popular young men." Not the highest quality backing (essentially thick cardstock) but a genuine vintage frame for a a genuine vintage (and hard to find original) Currier and Ives print.
