On the quick look the image looks like a man with a bow tie. But what about the 5 dots on the right ear and the hair pushing close to the right side eye. Could this image really be of a woman? You guess, but is an original daguerreotype image that should be in your collection.This 1/16 plate in a case that measures 1 3/4 " × 2" A daguerreotype is one-of-a-kind photograph, meaning that the process produces only a single image. It can appear as a negative or a positive view of the subject depending on the viewing angle and the lighting conditions. A daguerreotype is subject to tarnish and usually is encased to protect the image.Condition:Image is still pretty clear after 175 years with some surface blemishes and silvering issues are evident. Image also may be in the case upside down. Working clasp seems to be positioned on left side of image. Since I received it this way... I chose to leave it alone. Some corner and edge damage to the symmetrical case, original binding has separated and needs repair. Some of the leather is gone.
