Description: An example of the 1969 lithograph print, titled variously as "Mascara", ("Mask"), numbered in lower left margin 73/250 and pencil signed at lower right, by the famous Mexican 20th century muralist artist DAVID ALFARO SIQUEIROS (1896-1974). This lithograph was printed by Mourlot in Paris. Siqueiros is considered one of the three giants of Mexican twentieth century art, alongside Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco. He was a social realist artist, always concerned with the lot of the Mexican common people and their struggles. Throughout mid and later life, his politics became highly intertwined with his art, and he spent time in prisons, drawing much attention for his strong political views. In 1919 Siqueiros traveled to Europe for the first time, meeting Rivera in Paris and traveling with him to Italy to view Renaissance frescoes. He participated in the Venice Biennale in the early 1950's with Rivera, Orozco and Rufino Tamayo. In the 1960's the artist became an active lithographer, and it is during that period that a number of editions were published, making the work of this great master more accessible and affordable. This example is in very good condition, with just the commonly encountered paper oxidation (browning) seen inside the mat "window". Colors are bright and unfaded. A fine example of the work of this master artist. Measurements 24 1/2" by 19 1/4" inside the present mat and 34 1/2" by 29 1/4" as framed. The frame has some wear and is dated, and the print is loose and slipping around in the frame (thereby proving difficult to photograph properly). ***Considering the frame, glass, etc., you might want to re-frame, in which case this could be carefully rolled in a tube so as to save significantly on shipping costs.*** Allow for reflections in a few images.
