Description: Four original engraved plates from "Scraps," No. 1, 1828 (ID per American Antiquarian website), created by David Claypoole Johnston, a19th century cartoonist and graphic artist. Johnston was among the first American satirical artists to enjoy widespread popular appeal. Each of the four plates contains a collections of satirical vignettes on race, culture, American life and politics. See photos for condition. The paper shows its age, with discoloration and minor imperfections. All in all, the printed graphics are still quite good. Reverse sides show adhesion stains and backing paper remnants.
