Description: David Robert “The Holy Tree of Metereah” Standard Folio Edition (1849) with hand coloring. The image has been professionally matted (acid free) framed under plexiglass. THIS IS NOT A LATER REPRODUCTION and was carefully examined before it was framed. The image depicts the holy tree (an ancient sycamore) located at the village of Metereah near Heliopolis in Egypt at the site of a spring. It is believed by the local Christian communities that the Holy Family rested here during their flight from Bethlehem and the wrath of King Herod. The spring is said to be originally salt water but was transformed to a freshwater spring by the presence of the Holy Family. The overall dimensions of the framed approximately 23” x 17”. Beautiful image. Difficult to photograph with glare. Please ask questions.
