Description: Hello friends, This new handmade Davis Brothers knife is "Nostalgia #21", in a new Second Edition of the "Nostalgia" series. It has a medium sized blade with a straight edge and straight spine and an angled fine tip. This is special knife, with a complementary handle shape that sets off the blade. It is made of a Unique lamination of Cocobolo and Tiger Maple for a strikingly distinctive look, and feels great in your hand. For this new edition of the "Nostalgia" series, steel from one of three vintage crosscut logging saws will be used, depending on the size of the blade to be made. These various sized old logging saws were given to me by good friends when they learned of my quest for vintage steel. Many an old saw is yet leaning against a wall in the Northwest, never to cut an old growth tree again. This seems like a great use for them; to bring their special quality to carving instead. The Nostalgia series was started a few years ago as a tribute to our first knives. Over 40 years ago, my brother and I made those knives, using whatever good steel we could get our hands on. Some of our finest resulted from old saw blades, which are high carbon, and hold an edge exceptionally well (think of a saw being used for hours or days between sharpenings). The handles were made from salvaged wood from many sources, but always unusual or unique in character. No two of these knives will ever be exactly alike and they are numbered sequentially. They will all be made from superior materials. It is unlikely that many will be made, so grab one when you can! This knife was hand made by a carver, for carvers, right here on the Pacific Northwest Coast. Davis Bros., well known for high quality hand forged NW Coast style woodcarving tools, is making a limited number of some favorites. SAFETY FIRST! : This blade is extremely sharp. Please use caution when removing from the packaging. Always be aware of where you are cutting, and do not put hands, fingers or other parts of your body in the path of the blade. Always wear a cut-resistant carving glove on the hand not holding the knife. And please keep this knife safely away from children. AUCTION DETAILS: I make 5-7 knives each week and put them up for auction on Saturday evening starting at 5:00 PM. Pacific time. The auctions are staggered, with one every 10 minutes, to allow customers to view each one in sequence. The previous week's auctions are ending at the same time, with 10 minutes between to allow last minute bidding on each one. In addition to the auctions, each knife has a "Buy It Now" price to allow immediate purchase. The "Buy It Now" option ends for each knife when a bid is placed on it. WORKMANSHIP: Each knife is unique and hand crafted, with no automated processes used in the more than 30 machining, forging and woodworking tasks for each one. Some very fine tool marks may be visible on the knives. I do not attain absolute machine-like perfection, but strive to combine art, beauty and utility. The look and feel of this tool when held is beautiful, smooth, and inspires the work at hand. BLADE: It was made using high quality saw steel from a crosscut logging saw over 100 years old. This saw was used in logging in the Pacific Northwest around the turn of the 20th century, by a pair of brothers from Sweden, and was discovered in their old barn. The blade was cut out, ground to shape then forged, refined and hardened. It was then tempered to keep a durable, keen edge and is extremely sharp. The blade has a straight edge and is 2 1/2" long and 1/2" wide, tapering over the length of the blade, with a sharp angled point. HANDLE: The handle is a unique lamination of Cocobolo and Tiger Maple for an outstanding contrasting design with special character. This handle style is robust enough for hard work while providing a comfortable grip and allowing it to be directed with precision. This allows plenty of force to be used while still maintaining accurate control. It is finished with hand rubbed Shellac, a benign finish that accents the color and grain and is very durable. CONSTRUCTION: This knife is 8 3/8" overall, with a 2 1/2" long blade that is 1/2" wide before tapering to the fine angled point. It has a straight edge and straight spine, with an angled and pointed tip. The blade is set with epoxy and further secured with a traditional seine twine wrap, saturated with Cyanoacrylate for strength. CARVING CHARACTERISTICS: This blade is made for creation and roughing out of carvings, cleanup and detail work, as well as general carving and hobby use. It is very handy for lots of cutting tasks, and you will want it close to hand on your workbench. As the end is pointed, it is also great for cleanup and detail work. With a double bevel edge , this knife can be used with either hand, and cuts well either pushing or pulling. The blade has plenty of strength for these tasks, but should not be used for prying. For best performance, when sharpening this tool both sides should be sharpened. SHIPPING AND CUSTOMER SERVICE: I charge only what the Postal Service fee is on an average shipment for that weight, with no additional handling fees. I have several auctions running each week, and will gladly combine shipping to save you money. Wait for the combined invoice if you have multiple purchases/wins. I offer a 30 day return policy and will personally work to resolve any issues. I strive for Quality and Customer Satisfaction.
