Scuttled by the Germans at Bordeaux in Aug. 1944. Early in 1946 was raised and reconditioned for service. She was given a single funnel in the refit. Reentered trans-Atlantic service July 1947.Transferred later to the West Indies trade. Sold to Canadian Pacific early in 1953, as a replacement for their fire-gutted EMPRESS OF CANADA. Renamed A) EMPRESS OF AUSTRALIA b) VENEZUELA (1956).
