Description: 62024BXTB300BSMT A RARE 19th Century ( SOLID TEAK, BRASS BOUND, Diminutive CAMPAIGN CHEST in two parts, most likely made in British Colonial India for the English market, with the unusual feature of a lift top compartment ( the drawer interiors are also solid Teakwood). The Top Half contains the lift top compartment and one pull out drawer, The Bottom half contains two pull out drawers. The chest retains all of its original locks, flush brass drawer pulls & brass keyhole escutcheons. The original iron lift handles are of excellent quality and strength. DIMENSIONS: 30" Wide, 35" High, 16" Deep (back to front). The chest is in excellent condition. Please see condition description. This chest exemplifies practical portability which was its primary purpose. Used by British military officers, wealthy individuals on safari, and London flat owners short on space, these chests were produced from the Late 18th Century through the Early part of the 20th Century. They were made in England, India and East Asia for use around the globe. Still practical, these chests are in demand today.
