Description: EAPG WHITE OPALESCENT NAUTILUS ARGONAUT SHELL CAKE FRUIT STAND WHIMSEY NATIONAL NORTHWOOD Nautilus aka Argonaut Shell by National Glass Company (the Northwood Works Division) in white Opalescent. This piece is known as a cake or fruit stand by the manufacturer. Some call it a banana boat, whimsey or compote. It measures 8 1/4" long, 5" wide and approximately 3 1/2" high. Produced sometime between 1899-1904 but may have been continued by Dugan when National stopped making glass in 1904. (Info from the Eapg Pattern Glass Database) Good overall condition with no cracks. The base has a small chip at one of the mold lines. I do feel quite a bit of roughness from shelf wear. Possibly teeny tiny chips that can't be seen but felt. These are commonly called fleabites. Please see my other listings for great deals. I mainly sell vintage glass and costume jewelry with a few odds and ends thrown in. I'm a GPSA (Glass and Pottery Association) which holds their members to upa high standard of customer service and selling practices.>
