Description: The War was over but time kept marching on. This old battle ax was made sometime between Dec. of 1872 and Feb. of 1873. It was part of a 1,000 piece run but there were 133,788 Mod 1857's built by the time they decided to stop. It's an 18s, Home Watch Co. grade, Waltham with 7 jewels and not a lot of frills. It's a pretty basic watch, sort of the Volkswagen Bug of the watch world. It appears to be in original condition but I'm not convinced the case is original... The dial is just about flawless as far as I can see but it's not signed which seems to be fairly typical of these. The watch is quite grungy and needs a good cleaning. I had to nudge it to get it going but once it took off, it was ticking loud enough to hear from a distance, it appears to have a good heart! The crystal is thick, but not as thick as some from this time period, it looks a bit clear to be original but as nice as the rest of it is, it's quite possible this watch spent more time in a drawer than it did in a pocket.... There is a key that came with it that serves the purpose but is not the right one. I'm sure I've left out something, I usually do, contact Me with questions, I'm far from an aficionado but I can hold My own... I've got lots of new old stock and used parts, too many to list so, if You're looking for an old Merc part or, maybe an old Evinrude gizmo, I might just have one, don't be afraid to ask..... I've even got some stuff for other, older outboards. Most of it is inventoried and on computer so, I can give You an answer pretty darn quick, once in a while somebody tosses Me a curve and, I have to go hunting but, for the most part, I can find it without too much goofin' around. I'm a reasonable Guy (most people in the boat biz are) if You get a part and it doesn't do it for Ya, just send Me a note, I'll either make it do it for Ya or, I'll take it back so, before You go callin' the boat part cops on Me, give Me a chance to fix it..... When You sell used stuff, there's bound to be something that worked when You took it off but, fell asleep while it was on the shelf, don't fret, I'll make right, one way or another! Shipping, as We all know, is a bit of a sticky wicket, I'd love to ship everything for free but, that's just not practical with the costs the way they are. I ship the best way I can for a given item, if it weighs 2oz and it's not a ten cent part, I'll ship it, no charge but, if it weighs over a pound, I'll likely chose Parcel Select, this is just a ball park tool, once the item is purchased and I know where it's going, I may find a cheaper/better way to go but, the cost should be very similar... Once You get up to things like gear cases, I have no idea what to expect on any given day so, again, once the item is purchased and it's destination is determined, I can then make a decision and, if, once that happens, the cost is a fair amount lower than You paid, at the time of purchase, I will refund Your PayPal (I guess You'll just have to trust Me on that one...) I suppose the point of all this is, it's a good platform for Me to complain about shipping cost but, for You, it's the Reader's Digest version of My way of dealing with it, right or wrong? hard to say..... I'm sure I've left out plenty so, if You have a question, ask away! I check this stuff all the time so, I'll get back to You, usually within 24hrs.... Thanks for checkin' out My stuff, I really do appreciate it!! Brad from smack dab in the middle of Lake Champlain (No really, I live on an Island!)
