EARLY 1914 Sam Rayburn Signed Letter U.S. House Rep Texas Speaker of the House

Description: Description: This 1914 typed letter is signed by Sam Rayburn, who was at the time of this letter, the Texas 4th District Representative in the U.S. House. Through my research, this is the earliest letter I've been able to find of his as this predates his fame. He was first elected March 4, 1913 and served until 1961 and served as the longest tenured Speaker of the House in United States History. This letter is dated January 23, 1914 and is typed on Sam Rayburn's personalized U.S. House of Representatives - Washington, D.C. letterhead. Letter reads:"Rev. C.C. Young, Greenville, Texas. My dear Mr. Young:-Your letter of the 19th inst, received and contents of same noted with interest, and I regret that you were not at home for the Holidays. I managed to slip off here on the last day of the session and go home for the Holidays, but I did not get home until the day following Christmas.I have noted that you endorse Mr. R. C. Dial for the postmastership of Greenville, and you may rest assured your endorsement of him shall receive careful consideration at my hands before I make a recommendation for this place. Give my best regards to Mrs. Young. Your Friend, Sam Rayburn" (hand signed in ink). I have not authenticated his signature but have no reason to believe it is not authentic.
