Description: This is a wonderful folky design and one of the nicest examples of smoke-decoration that I have ever seen. It is a turned wood box, painted overall and with smoke decoration on the paint. Strong colors and smoke decorated design. Dating 1820’s to 1850's, probably New England and measuring 3.4 inches across and 3.11 high. Condition is overall very good. The lid is more faded and more worn than the sides. Minor scratches, most noticeable on the lid. The decoration is very well preserved on the sides. A nice chance to acquire a beautiful example of the relatively rare folk art tradition of Smoke Decoration.
