Description: This set of FIRST PRINTING hard covers from Russ Cochran's EC Archives reprints the following comic books in full color throughout: • Issues 13 - 18 of Tales from the Crypt • Issues 12 - 17 of The Vault of Horror • Issues 1 - 6 of Crime SuspenStories (4 issues contain stories from The Haunt of Fear) For the uninitiated, EC was the publisher of Tales from the Crypt, Weird Science, and many other iconic titles including Mad (first a comic and then a magazine to escape the Comics Code). EC's line of "New Trend" comics is generally considered to be the best written, edited, and drawn in comic book history. "Tales from the Crypt" and "The Vault of Horror" were two of three horror comics published by EC. "The Haunt of Fear" is represented in this volume of "Crime SuspenStories". A fourth horror title, "The Crypt of Terror," was cancelled when Bill Gaines pulled the plug on the horror line during the comic book witch-hunts of the 1950s. As for "Crime", EC had no interest in the cops-and-robbers style of story prevalent at the time. Instead, they opted for a much more mature tale. Fans of film noir will find EC's style very familiar--check out the photo of one of Johnny Craig's splash pages for a sample. Stories that originally appeared in “Vault" and "Crime" were adapted in HBO’s “Tales from the Crypt” TV series. Some of the highlights of this set are as follows: • Tales from the Crypt includes one of the many Ray Bradbury stories adapted by the EC crew for their horror and sci-fi titles • The Vault of Horror includes the famous Johnny Craig "prison corpse" cover and Graham Ingels' amazing artwork in the Old Witch stories • Crime SuspenStories features Haunt of Fear stories told by The Old Witch beginning with the third issue I have been slowly downsizing my collection of books. These have been carefully browsed through one time only. (I've already read the stories in the original comics and in Russ Cochran's original EC Library.) While I intend to hold onto the complete set of the slipcased EC Library for now, it's time to let the all-color EC Archives volumes go to a new home. Frankly however, I'm likely to keep them rather than let them go for some ridiculously low price. Fifteen years ago, each volume sold new for $49.95 each. These make a great gift for the comic collector, horror/thriller lover, and EC Fan-Addict. And you can get them at a fraction of the cost of a single beat-to-hell comic. Reminder: These are NOT Dark Horse reprints. These are first edition, first printing hard cover from Russ Cochran/Gemstone, complete with original dust jacket and stored in a polypropylene book bag for shipping. Please email with any questions before bidding. Check out my other EC Archives listings for Weird Science Volumes 1 & 2 and Two Fisted Tales Volumes 1 & 2. I'm willing to consider a deal for multiple listings. Note: eBay sellers do not set postage rates nor are we Amazon with free shipping. Consider postage and tax as part of your total purchase price, but don't consider it as profit for the seller. This package will not be shipped by Media Mail. Thank you for understanding. And finally... please don't be one of those weirdos who watchlist an item, but never make an offer and never accept an offer. What's the point?
