Markus uses about 60 lbs of Miracle Mud in his custom made refugium sump. He also installs a small protein skimmer that run about 6 hours a day. He uses dosing pumps to deliver the three parts calcium supplies to his reef. Water change is done weekly at about 10% automatically. Up to 100 fragments of corals are harvested every month! This tank also house about 50 varieties of anthias plus another 20 or so of other fish. Markus feeds his fish 6-8 times a day in order to keep his anthias thriving. Anthias need constant food supplies throughout the day otherwise they will perish! Despite this heavy feeding, Markus still need to add Ammonium Chloride every night to supply nitrogen (nitrate) for his fast growing corals. Too low of nitrate will lead to corals bleaching. The EcoSystem Method can become very efficient denitrator filter if concentration of phosphate in aquarium is kept low.
