Description: Eucalyptus camaldulensis River Red Gum Eucalyptus camaldulensis or River Red Gum, a native of Australia, grows up to a height of 18-40m. and is now widespread across the globe. The tree preferably grows across riverbeds, and can be found scattered anywhere. The bark is smooth, and the branches are small, with some rough and grayish basal slabs. The alternate leaves are lanceolate to falcate in shape, grayish-green or green in color, and measure 5–30 cm in length, and 0.7–3.2 cm in width. Eucalyptus camaldulensis flowers are white in color, and are placed in unbranched, axillary, peduncles, measuring 0.5–2.8 cm in length. The fruits are pedicellate and hemispherically- shaped, while measuring 0.2–0.5 cm in length, and 0.4–1 cm in width. Eucalyptus camaldulensis seeds are smooth, yellow in color, pyramidal or cuboid in shape, and measure 1–1.5 mm in length. The wood of Eucalyptus camaldulensis is known for its brilliant red or slightly pinkish color, and is used for making art furniture and rot resistant applications such as, fence posts and cricket stumps. The tree is also a popular source of firewood, and is also grown as a shade tree in plantations.
