We either rely upon marks for metal purity, or test for gold content. If we say it is 14K gold, we guarantee it. Here is a beautiful antique Victorian chatelaine watch fob. It has a gold tone wash or plating. I do not know what the base metal is, however it looks a lot like silver with a gold vermeil wash. The chain is comprised of three separate chains, a single rope twisted chain with a chevron mesh chain on either side. The width of the three chains together measures 3/16 inches wide. The chain that leads to the T-bar measures 1 inch, with the T-bar measuring 1-1/2 inches long. The chain leading to the fob measures 5-1/2 inches long. The charm/ball on the end measures 17.6mm in diameter at its widest. The fob/charm itself is two tone, with leaves on it in relief. There are also some tiny glass beads in it, but most of them are missing. The entire piece weighs 13.2 grams overall. Please review the photos for a complete description.
