Description: sold as is see last photo for size for sale extra large Sankaku-Yari, Shishi-Yari huge Samurai spear occasionally we find such extra extra huge piece of Yari spears that's a couple times larger than the usual sized Yari blades. based on my study, it's most likely these type of large Yari blades should be referred to as: 猪槍Shishi-Yari: also read as Ino-Yari, Inoshishi-Yai, which the term ししShishi comes from 猪/いのししInoshishi (boar). Such Yari were known to be used for boar hunting, which with the extremely large size, they can easily defend the user against the deadly charge of a boar and deliver a critical thrust to the creature. there's also another quite similar type of Yari called 熊槍Kuma-yari (bear spear) which were used by Matagi hunters of Touhoku region, but they are usually much roughlier made and in a much lower quality this particular piece is by itself a very unique piece even comparing to other similar samples: it's one of the few (or probably the only one) that's in a 袋槍Fukuro-yari "socket spear" style which mounts on a shaft by a socket rather than a Nakago. It also has a thick ring reinforcement on the socket for extra strength (probably also as a lug to prevent over-thrusting under strong impact if it's really a boar spear), which is a very rarely seen practice on Japanese socket spears. although the current polish is in rough condition with quite some surface scratches, the blade is overall in solid condition with no significant damages observed. It's clearly properly made in traditional Nihonto techniques by a sword smith, which the Suguha style Hamon is healthy and complete.
