Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here we have an extremely rare early American fish flask. Redware fish flasks are extremely rare, when found, most fish flasks are made of either stone ware or yellow ware. The molding of this flask is crisp and finely detailed. The molding accentuates the detail in the scales, fins, head and mouth. You can see where the edge of the potters smoothing tool left a mark through the clay while it was still wet before firing. Redware was fired at a lower temperature than stone ware or yellow ware with the clay being more prone to damage. Measuring 8 ¼” in length this flask has a small chip to the edge of one of the top fins and loss to side of the mouth opening with no other damage or repairs. This is rare and exceptional, a most desirable piece of redware any serious collector would want for their own.
