Description: Faure: Requiem, Music for Pelléas and Mélisande, Prelude to the Opera Penelope, Suite Masques and Bergamasques (Remastered 2024) SACD Hybrid Description*A project to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fauré's death and the 55th anniversary of Ansermet's death. A historic masterpiece recorded in the early days of stereo by DECCA! A latest reissue of one of the best performances of this piece with its pious and simple sound. The world's first SA-CD! "Requiem" is a classic performance by Ansermet, featuring two great singers representing the French-speaking world at the time. Although it was recorded by DECCA in the early days of stereo in 1956, the well-known performance that does not lose the atmosphere of the time is still magnificent to listen to today, and although there have been many great recordings by French-speaking performers since the same era, this sound source is undoubtedly one of the most representative recordings of Fauré's "Requiem". This time, as a project to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Ansermet's death, we have newly converted it to DSD using the latest analog master tape from his home country, and have reissued it in the final form of the package. The clear yet realistic sound quality is a must-listen. In the original recording, "Requiem" and the three songs from the second track onwards were on separate albums, but since the CD era, these four songs have been collected together on one disc, and are highly complete as couplings. This is the first time they have been released on SA-CD. First of all, this "Requiem" is attractive for the singing by two of the great singers of the time, Danko and Suzay. Suzanne Danko (1911-2000) was 45 years old at the time of recording, and Gerard Suzay (1918-2004) was 37 years old. Born in Brussels, Danko made her mark in Mozart's operas, and was known as the best Mozart singer of the 20th century as a soprano, but she was also a famous singer who specialized in French works. There are not many recordings of the sound source itself, but there are some recordings for DECCA, including opera arias and German works, in mono. Among his works, those of Debussy and Fauré are particularly outstanding, and he participated in his first opera recording, "Pelléas et Mélisande," in 1952, under the direction of Ansermet. He also collaborated with Ansermet on Ravel's "Scheherazade," recorded in Paris in 1947. In this Fauré recording, Danko's elegant singing voice, along with Suzy, greatly enhances the quality of the recording. On the other hand, Suzy, who is praised for his velvety voice, is exquisite in terms of musicality, and is well-known not only in his native country but also in German and Austrian works, especially Schubert and Schumann, but his French works are especially highly regarded. Suzy's charm is also in his rich interpretations, which come from the wide range of repertoire that he makes use of his abundant language skills, and he left behind many recordings. In 1945, early in Suzy's performance career, he sang the "Requiem" at a concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of Fauré's birth in England. There are mixed opinions about the choir, but it may be said that Ansermet had some intention behind this recording. In any case, Ansermet's well-balanced conducting is also appealing.
