Description: For you fellow flintlock lovers here is a safety device for your rifle or pistol. This is a simple tool made of nice tooling leather and double hand stitched artificial sinew that should help keep your gun from firing when you don't want it to. Simply slip it over the frizzen once your gun is loaded and, should the hammer drop when not wanted, it should stop the flint from striking sparks and igniting the main powder charge. When you are ready to let it rip it can be quickly pulled off and dropped. As it is tethered to the rifle it won't fall far and you are ready to pull the trigger.It comes with a short piece of leather cordage that can be affixed to your trigger guard like mine in the picture, or fastened somewhere else of your choosing. I make these out of durable tooling leather. I will dye them black or brown so please let me know what flavor you want when ordering and, if I don't have what you are looking for in stock, I can make one up pretty quick. They will be double hand stitched with brown artificial sinew. Black, yellow, and red sinew is also available. If no preferences are requested you will get one dyed brown with either natural or brown sinew stitching. This is a very inexpensive piece of mind for making sure you shouldn't have an accidental discharge while pursuing your primitive shooting hobby and I believe it to be historically correct. At least I have seen many old drawings and information depicting this on many a flintlock. In the pictured example the thong tab is justified to the right for right handed shooters. I can also offset the tab to the left for you folks with left handed rifles so, in addition to leather and sinew color preferences, please let me know if your gun is right or left handed and I will make sure the tab goes on the correct side. Size: I've sold several of these over the years to folks using Brown Bess and other muskets with large locks. So they generally fit most common lock sizes from small to large. But if your lock is considerably or abnormally large, and you need one up-sized a bit, just let me know and we will make it happen. Product Update: I recently changed leather for these and what I am using now is a bit thicker than the original making a nicer overall product.
