Description: FLUORESCENT MINERAL DISCLAIMER: If you are purchasing fluorescent minerals, the you should be made aware of the following:1) Your fluorescent mineral will not “glow” without ultraviolet energy.2) Fluorescence is not phosphorescence unless a seller says there is an afterglow. Fluorescence frequently requires a source of ultraviolet (UV) energy to emit what you see3) UV sources are generally found in shortwave (SW), mid-wave (MW), and longwave (LW) examples. SW is emitted at 254 nanometers (nm), MW is emitted at 312 nm, and LW is emitted at 365 nm. Fluorescent minerals react differently to different wavelengths.4) You MUST have a UV source with a high enough wattage output to see the fluorescence. A $10 retail source just won’t cut it for SW. I have found that $50-$100 is a ballpark figure to enter the field. In general, the higher the wattage, the better the fluorescence.5) The lens of your camera has the ability to take in waves and produce a picture which looks better than your naked eye sees. Most minerals you purchase will NOT look like that with your naked eye and a low-quality UV source.6) I have learned from experience and absolutely LOVE this hobby. I have an 11watt SW source, take still pictures with my camera, and am thrilled with the results I get. It is generally a new hobby to most people and knowledge is power. Many people have been doing this for years.7) If you don’t understand something, then please ask questions. Most of us love to talk and learn about minerals. It is not a magic trick, but science. The right tools will hopefully lead you to years of enjoying this hobby.8) I live within three hours of the Franklin Mineral Museum and Sterling Hill Mine. I have never been disappointed. :0)You are bidding on a fluorescent mineral from the Franklin Buckwheat Dump/Sterling Hill Mine collecting areas! I collected the minerals I am listing myself, but they got mixed in with each other. I also collected from the barrels at the top of the hill at the Buckwheat Dump. I have been working on learning hardystonite, hydrozincite, wollastonite, clinohedrite, sphalerite, chlorophane, margarosanite, esperite, barite, etc. I know some of these minerals are more difficult to find. Beyond knowing calcite, willemite, and franklinite, I do not want to misrepresent what I am listing, so I will let you determine the additional mineral composition in the specimens I am listing and answer any questions you have throughout the auction. I washed the minerals in Dawn dish soap and water with a toothbrush to try to remove dirt, mineral granule powder, or outside minerals that contacted the specimen you are looking at. The measurements and weight are shown with the ruler and scale in some of the pictures. The pictures were taken with an iPhone using a UV Tools 11w high output shortwave fluorescent mineral light. Please keep in mind that the camera will usually bring out the fluorescent colors brighter than it appears to the unaided eye. I started with a 4w SW light and was disappointed very quickly after seeing the minerals at the mine using their SW versus my 4w light. The UV Tools light, currently selling for $89 on the UV Tools website, has allowed me to better enjoy, appreciate, and photograph my fluorescent mineral collection. There are higher wattage and more expensive ultraviolet light sources out there to make your specimes fluoresce even brighter. I hope this would make a nice addition to your fluorescent mineral collection. Please ask any questions throughout the auction and I will be more than happy to get back to you. I enjoy driving around the country collecting specimens, antiques, and collectibles. I also like giving others the opportunity to purchase and hopefully find similar enjoyment with the items I am providing. I will do my best to accurately list and describe the items, answer questions, and provide quick and secure shipping. If you have additional information, please let me know and I will make any needed adjustments to the listing. If the supplies and shipping are less than expected, then I will partially refund your amount paid. I will be shipping mostly using USPS Flat Rate, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, or whichever provides delivery confirmation. That allows both of us to track and feel more comfortable. I will give a shipping discount if you purchase more than one item. Please wait to pay until I provide an adjusted invoice. I want us to both have a positive experience and I appreciate eBay providing this platform. I will leave feedback after you have received your item and left feedback for me. Have a wonderful day and may your life be touched by the sun!
