Description: New postcard depicts layout of the Freedman's Village in 1865. Village was located on the grounds of the Arlington Plantation, the Robert E. Lee home, which had been occupied by the Union Army since 1861. Locating the former slaves on the property of Confederate General Robert E. Lee was considered ironic at the time, given the Civil War considerations. This is an important story in Black history. Although the village was slated to be a temporary solution, it lasted until 1900. Anyone interested in viewing the property can access it through Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Postcard measures 6 inches x 4.25 inches. On the back is a description and history of Freedman's Village. Please note that is in very small light type; I have slightly darkened this so potential buyers can read this more easily. In the U.S. the postcard will be mailed first class for free, with no tracking. If you prefer tracking, please let me know before buying, and I will add this option at cost. Thank you for looking and please let me know if you have any questions. Be sure to check out my other great listings!
