French Art Glass Mont Joye Delvaux Enameled 11.25" Vase, Chipped Ice Texture

Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is a gorgeous Mont Joye/Delvanux French Art Glass vase in unusual form with enameled iris flowers and a chipped ice textured background, c. 1910. This body of this large vase has a rare form with sides that appear to be punched in while the glass was being formed. The vase is a French cameo style with the design in relief from the acid etched background with the design being decorated with the most detailed flowers painted in thickly applied purple and white enamels with gilded stems and foliage. The chipped ice background has an icicle texture hanging from the top rim. Mont Joye was the name given to early cameo glass produced by Legras in Pantin, France around 1900-1910. This vase is hand signed in gold with the retailers name on the bottom "Delvanux, 18 rue Royale, Paris, Deposse". The large size and shape of this vase makes this example of Mont Joye/Delvanux glass very desirable and impressive. Measures 11 1/4" high with a top diameter of 5 1/4" and an overall width of 7 1/2". Weighs 5.7 pounds. This stunning vase is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws.Background information: Delvanux was a very prestigious retail store located at 18 rue Royale in Paris. The store was founded in the 1880's by Magasin Delvanux and exhibited and sold art objects in glass and porcelain produced by famous artists of this period including Charles Schneider, Mont Joye/Legras,Clement Massier, Baccarat, Choisy, Sevres, Clichy and others. In the 1920's, Delvanux produced works in his own workshop there in the store with his own brand where famous artists worked on them. Pieces sold by Delvanux were signed with the name and address of the store in gold on the base. The shop was in existence for almost 100 years but closed in the 1970's.
