Description: Up for sale is an antique publication from the US Navy Hydrographic Office, circa 1952. Its age qualifies it as a genuine antique. It was authorized by the then Secretary of the Navy and contains additional information provided by the Office of Naval Research. The name, "US Navy Hydrographic Office" was changed to "Oceanographic Office" in 1962 and is still current. The book covers the formation of various forms of sea ice and icebergs, physical and chemical properties of ice, ship operations in the various forms of ice, navigation, towing, etc. Most forms of ice conditions are covered. In addition to ice terminology, the book contains over 50 pages of black and white photographs taken in the ice by various US Navy early environmental teams, and a bibliography of relevant publications.Back in my working days, I was a marine scientist and worked in and near the ice more than 20 times, including visits to the Canadian, Greenland and Scandinavian Arctic regions. I used this book several times to complement my own data. The book contains 88 pages. It is softbound and has seen some use but is still intact. Now being well over 80, I need to "downsize" before my heirs have to do it for me. I will combine shipping charges if you buy more than one of my items. Thanks for looking and good luck! -----------------------And now, the not so "fine print"-------------------------Payment is expected within 5 days. Shipping is the following business day, which means that, other than on a Sunday or legal US holiday, shipping is normally done the day after I receive your payment. If I receive it by 9:30am, I can sometimes get it out the same day. All who pay on time are provided with excellent feedback at the time of payment. If you are happy with your item, I would appreciate the same.
