Description: VERY GOOD CONDITION This sale is for a vintage edition entitled “Major Barbara,” subtitled “A Screen Version,” a social satire by Bernard Shaw (1856-1950). It was published by Penguin Books, of Harmondsworth, Middlesex, in 1945 and is the FIRST PRINTING in this form (vintage paperback, formerly published in hardback as a stage play in 1907, it was screened by Gabriel Pascal in 1942). George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) was an Irish playwright, who wrote more than 60 plays. He was an ardent socialist and wrote many brochures and speeches for the Fabian Society. He is the only person to have been awarded both the Nobel Prize for Literature (1925) and an Oscar (1938). The book measures 7 inches x 4.5 inches and has 169 pages. The book is in good, neat and clean condition for a softback of its age. There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book.
