Tough and Competent is Kranz's account of how he developed the leadership that turned novice Mercury engineers into a hardened team that helped astronauts survive aboard Apollo 11, that saved the lives of the astronauts on Apollo 13, and other highly stressful situations in Mission Control. Kranz is active at age 91 years old. First Bookshop caught up with him last year. In one picture, Kranz is shown signing Tough and Competent at the Space Center Houston Sept.14, 2023. In the second picture at the same event, he's addressing the audience before the signing. Later in 2023 in the third picture, Kranz is with Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise surrounded by Star Wars characters at the Wings Over Houston Airshow. The copy of Tough and Competent will include the three pictures and a ticket to the signing event (shown).
