It has a serrated edge on one side for chopping / sawing. It was designed to replace the earlier generation AMES E Tool. The Gerber E-Tool is made with a serrated edge steel blade and a glass-filled nylon handle with an anodized shaft making this shovel lighter weight and durable. Just like the earlier military entrenching tool, it folds in 3 ways to be compact and fit into a MOLLE shovel cover.
