Description: [zipedit] GermanyEvent Publicity Poster Stamp Issued as publicity for the 6. Jahresschau Deutscher Arbeit (Sixth Annual Exhibition of German Work) held in Dresden, from June 1 - September 30, 1927. The design of this stamp is by German artist Willi Petzold (1885 - 1978). The stamp is listed in Charles Kiddle's "Poster Stamps - Graphic Artists - The Best of the Rest . . ." as # PE8.10 (Rarity 20). According to Wikipedia: The Annual Show of German Work was an exhibition held annually in Dresden from 1922 onwards to promote industry, science and commerce. The events took place in and around the area of the Municipal Exhibition Palace. After the war, attempts were made to reconnect with the pre-war exhibition tradition and to re-establish Dresden's reputation as an exhibition city. In the spring of 1921, the "Association for the Organization of the Annual Show of German Labor" was founded. The aim was to organize a series of ten exhibitions starting in 1922, each of which was to be devoted to a thematic focus from industry, science or craft. This exhibition concept was only deviated from in 1926 and 1930/31. Instead of the annual exhibition of German labor, the anniversary horticultural exhibition and the international art exhibition took place in Dresden in 1926 and the second Dresden International Hygiene Exhibition in 1930/31. 6th annual exhibition "The Paper" 1927 1,150 exhibitors took part in the sixth annual exhibition. There were 1,200,000 visitors. All areas of application related to paper production, processing and use were presented. A “press hall”, a 43-meter-high tower, was built for the newspaper press. The use of paper as a building material was presented in the “paper house”. In the scientific department, the history of the production of paper and paper as a cultural factor in connection with the development of writing was thematized. Rare prints and books from the holdings of the Saxon State Library were also on display. As part of the annual show, an exhibition by the German Association of Artists took place in the municipal exhibition building. The Association of German Commercial Graphics was also present with its own exhibition. This example is F/VF, OG, H. After 35+ years I decided to retire from being an active Cinderella Stamp dealer. Most of my working inventory plus backup stock was sold at public auction. However, I have retained some material that I will be offering for sale. In addition, I have some "new" material that was mixed into lots I have bought for my own collections. I will be listing some of the material in my eBay store at fixed prices. I will also be offering some material at auction, either as single items or mixed lots. There will be many bargains available. There will be large and small lots, some containing similar material, some containing a random mixture, and some containing only one or a few items. The condition will be mixed, but none of the lots will be just accumulations of damaged or faulty stamps (unless specifically listed as such). Items in stockpage or larger lots may be removed and repackaged into glassines to save on shipping costs. A Note about Poster Stamps and Gum: Because many poster stamp collectors are primarily interested in the image on the stamp, the absence or presence of gum on the back is of little concern. If no mention of gum is made, then there may or may not be gum present. If you are only interested in poster stamps with original gum, please inquire before bidding. Actual condition issues (that are not apparent from the scan) WILL be described. * A Note about "Stock Images": Occasionally I will have more than one example of an item in inventory. Rather than scan each one individually, I may use the same image for multiple examples of the item. If that is the case, the item supplied will be in substantially the same, or better, condition than the image. Any such items will have the words: "STOCK IMAGE" at the end of the description.
