This rare Masonic AF&AM gives a rare offering of a published Masonic Sermon in the Federal Period of American History. In 1786 individual freemasons assembled at New Brunswick and rather than representing local lodges as convention delegates, this meeting wrote a declaration calling for the creation of a grand lodge. Early the following year, on January 30, 1787, the Grand Lodge of New Jersey was created. According to the Works Progress Administration survey, the First Presbyterian Church, New Brunswick, New Jersey, was organized in 1726. The church building was erected in 1727 and was located on George and Patterson Streets in New Brunswick. A second, larger building was erected on the same site in 1784 and a third in 1836. Rev. Walter Monteith was minister there from 1786-1794. Interesting note is the Printer was a runaway printers apprentice from Pennsylvania in 1782. Image of ad is just for reference and not included.
