This '74 Grateful Dead Album release was in essence the culmination of the ' Golden Era ' of the Grateful Dead ( along with Wake Of The Flood ! ) - and bears the Magical ! fruits of their collective labors ... representing their 1st Nine ( 9 ) years together as a Band. However, the stage set was so very-different - in that this was the all-new ' format ' of the Grateful Dead - without the one & only Pigpen ... Mr. Ron McKernan ! and the relatively new addition of Keith Godchaux - in the Keyboard position. This was no " Rookie " Grateful Dead unit here by any means, and musically - it shows ! At this point in their unmatched Career - really earned their stripes ! However, despite the fact that this Fan-favorite Album was so well received ... the Grateful Dead were just about to take their first " Hiatus " since their start as a band in '65 !
