Griffiths Norwich England boxed V groove or car beading wood molding plane

Description: You are bidding on one Griffiths V groove or car beading wood molding plane as pictured. It is marked with "GRIFFITHS NORWICH" and owner "H BIRD" on the front end, BIRD again on the right side, and "1/4" and BIRD again on the back end. Overall length of the body is about 9-5/16".It features the deep boxing, and cuts a V groove that is just over 1/4" in overall width.John Griffiths made planes in London in the late 1700's, but then moved to Norwich, England, and he and his successors made planes and sold tools there from 1802 well into the 1900's. Please see the book Goodman's British Planemakers 4th Edition (or the 3rd Edition) for much more information about him. Condition is generally good. There are some screw holes in the bottom from a removed fence, some nail holes on the lower left side presumably also from a removed fence, and 2 worm holes higher up on the left side. The wood has a variety of scratches and dings, mostly on the right side and back end from adjusting the iron. And there are a couple bits of glue on the right side to clean off. The plane has a slight left to right warp if you sight down the tip of the boxing. The iron and the wedge both appear to be original to the plane. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which for this past season was October 2 to January 22. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay.
