Description: For sale is a first edition second printing of Babes in Darkling Woods by H.G. Wells. This copy is in very good to near fine condition and comes with its original dustjacket in good to very good condition. Published in 1940, Wells signed this book during his last of many trips to the USA before returning to the UK where he stayed in his home during the air raids surviving the war and dying in 1946. The first printing sold out quickly probably as a result of news of Wells upcoming visit and demand required a quick reprint. Interesting to note that had the German invasion of Britain been successful, Wells together with a number of other prominent English intellectuals including Aldous Huxley and Bertrand Russell were on a Gestapo list to be rounded up and executed.
