Description: This 1965 Hagstrom Viking was one of the first 1000 made and in the first year. The famous fast playing neck is due to the 60’s slim neck and low frets. This one has practically no wear at all on the first few frets and then none after that. The guitar received a pro setup and totally cleaned and plays and sounds great! SN# 646989Awesome underpriced collectable guitar. I believe this is a sleeper meaning it will gain more favor as the years go by and become collectable. Great value and comes in the original Hagstrom 1965 case she was born in. Some very light checking in the finish shown well in the photos Some history of the Viking and the Hagstrom The Hagström Viking was the first semi-acoustic guitar manufactured by Hagström. It was originally launched in 1965 and was built until it was discontinued in 1979 a few years before Hagström closed down their manufacturing in Sweden. The Viking is currently being reproduced by the Hagström brand. The Hagström Viking was the first semi-acoustic guitar built by the Hagström company. It was launched in 1965 alongside Hagström's new 12-string guitar and two bass guitars. Two years later there was a twelve-string model launched simple called the Viking 12 and the Viking II Deluxe which featured gold plated machine heads and adjustable bridges. In 1967 Hagström player Frank Zappa's "Nifty, Tough & Bitchen" advertising agency was hired to promote the Hagström brand in the USA. This resulted in three print ads: "Nifty", "Long and Slippery", and "Folk Rock is a Drag", and a radio spot: "Long and Slippery". Vintage Hagstrom History All Hagstrom instruments and amplifiers, made in Alvdalen between 1958 and the beginning of the 80s, have a unique serial number. The serial number is structured so that the first three digits indicate the series and the last three digits indicate the issue number in that the series. In the latter part of the 70th century it started to add the prefix 53 before the serial number, which means that these instruments have a serial number to eight digits. The Hagström Viking was the first semi-acoustic guitar built by the Hagström company. Al Casey played a Viking II in the orchestra and was asked by producer Bones Howe if Elvis could borrow the guitar for the appearance. According to Elvis's drummer Hal Blaine it was considered a lucky charm by Elvis. To take advantage of this Hagström used pictures of Elvis with the Viking in ads until Elvis's manager advised them not to.
