Ventilation is necessary to help keep the interior hospitable during multiple seasons. Drainage is a must, this is obvious. Birds that use birdhouses can’t raise their young under water. The distance from the floor to the entrance hole is essential- the baby birds need to be able to successfully leave the nest when they are ready. If there’s no way for them to get out that’s a big problem. Research your local birds and you will be able to find this measurement. It’s also important to keep the wood on the interior natural as to prevent chemicals from causing harm to the birds. I felt I should mention these points because I’ve been seeing ALOT of fancy looking birdhouses that don’t seem to be bird friendly.
