Description: For sale are some handmade 50% beef tallow and 50% Mangalica lard soap bars. I have had these available for sale for some time and I just noticed that there are marks from the metal rack where I was storing them. There was some kind of reaction so now there are some marks on one side (see pictures above). Also the color of the soap has changed a bit over time. If this does not bother you keep reading. The idea was to make a soap that has the benefits both types of fat and cut out any unnecessary chemicals, cleaner living and at the same time reduce my overall Eco footprint by buying local or making my own. Both of the fats were sourced from local farms. I purchased the raw suet from a farm where I get raw milk and the Mangalista fat is from a local pork farmer. Sadly he is not breeding them any longer so this is a limited run. If you look online you will see that Mangalica pork is highly valued and its flavor and texture really is something special. Here is some basic information about the soap: - The only ingredients are beef tallow, Mangalica lard, sodium hydroxide and filtered tap water. No dyes perfumes or additives. - Raw fat from local farms was rendered to make the tallow and lard.- Food grade sodium hydroxide (lye) was used. - Bramleberry lye calculator used to calculate formula.- 5 - 8% Superfat was used in the Brambleberry calculator. - Cold processed soap with full to partial gel so bars should last longer. - This batch has been curing since 2/13/2024. Recommended cure time is 4-6 weeks but they apparently get better as they age. - I tested the weight and PH once a week. PH average is 10.64 which seems to fit the information out there that palmitic acid has a PH around 10.7.- I tested the batch on 4/11 for residual alkalinity using phenolphthalein and non was detected. The pink solution turned clear when the soap was added without any additional citric acid. I have seen people online mention that as soap cures the PH may come down and the soaps become more mild and perform differently. Please do your research online about this type of soap because it is much different than commercial products. The higher PH has much stronger cleaning abilities than lower PH soaps which can only be achieved using industrial chemicals. Various oils have various target PH ranges but cannot get to the levels of commercial products, that is why their ingredient list is so long. If you order more than one I will include a mix of weights to try to get the average around the target mentioned above. Thanks for looking.
