Description: St Martin de Porres Single Decade RosaryThis beautiful single decade rosary is perfect for anyone who holds this saint special; people who work with homeless people or pets; in shelters and animal shelters, or who is working towards racial harmony. All eleven beads are 8 mm. The single Our Father bead is a genuine Green Adventurine. The ten Hail Mary beads are alternating genuine Autumn Jasper and faceted Czech glass in an olivine green color. The 1-3/4" silver-toned San Damiano crucifix has one half of the Prayer of Peace by St Francis on the back, in English (we include a card with the full prayer plus info on the crucifix. Both crucifix and the 7/8" St Martin de Porres medal were made in Italy; the chaplet itself was designed and handmade in the USA by me. He was the illegitimate son of a nobleman and a black slave woman. He grew up in poverty, but overcame his difficult beginnings to become a much loved helper of homeless and sick people and animals. When he joined a Dominican order as a servant, even though the rules said that a "person of color" could not receive the holy habit, he was made a Dominican brother. His superiors put aside the rule for him because he was so holy and deserving - and this was centuries before the civil rights movement! He never ate meat - maybe he should be the patron saint of vegetarians? Just kidding. This wonderful man spent his life building shelters for the homeless, even for stray dogs, cats and even birds, and caring for the sick and impoverished people of Peru. He was considered a saint on the day of his death. He is the patron of African Americans and mixed race people, the homeless, the public school system, innkeepers, barbers and hair stylists, poor people, public health, racial harmony, and television. And don't forget all those homeless animals and the people who care for them! The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper. Although they are not like the usual smaller professionally printed prayer cards, most of our customers prefer them since they are like a pamphlet with 4 "pages" and several images, prayers, patronages and often other information about the saint or Catholic devotion.
