Description: Book is 8.25" x 5.75" x 1.5" with 352 pages. The frontispiece was a photo of Hart Crane & it is missing. Although I can't see the date on the title page due to the tape, I believe this was the 1st edition in 1937 that was written by Philip C. Horton, and among his things when he died in 1989, three years after the death of his wife, "Tessa" Gilbert in 1986. In 1939 Philip C. Horton married the widow, ISOLDE THERESA (GILBERT) MACKAY, whose signature is on 1st blank page after the front cover. He was a professor at Harvard & her home was in Cambridge. This is just the way I found the book, and it appears to me that she and/or her husband were using this 1st edition to revise it etc. for a later edition to be printed in 1957, and that is why it is marked up & taped up as it is. Yes, the book is a mess, and I would normally dispose of it. However, because of the history involved and the fact that the individuals were known to me, there may be someone who would like to have this bit of additional information associated with Hart Crane, whose dramatic ending captured the attention of the world at the time. Although I have not seen his death certificate, I was told that Mr. Horton also ended his own life. Mrs. Horton was also known as an artist by the name of Tessa Horton, who was the child of a noted composer etc. I do have additional genealogical info from my own research, that I will share with the new owner.
