I want men who will come if there is no road at all.” A rare, first printing of Henry Stanley’s ‘In Darkest Africa.’ Known for his explorations in Africa, he found the Scottish missionary explorer David Livingstone, whom most had assumed had been lost. His acquaintance with continuing expedition with Livingstone led to the expedition for the relief of Emin Pasha, an Ottoman physician. This voyage was notorious for causing the deaths of so many of its members to disease and disaster. The events of this expedition were recorded in Stanley’s ‘In Darkest Africa’ in which he was the leader of the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition. This first edition, published in 1891, was quickly translated into many European languages following the popularity of this story. Many thanks for visiting Sartorio of Vienna.
