Description: This exquisite pair includes a lustre plate and a two-handled bowl, both crafted in the 15th-century Hispano-Moresque style. We believe these to be 18th-century revival examples, drawing on the rich traditions of earlier Moorish ceramic art. The plate features a beautifully iridescent glaze with a central bird motif, surrounded by intricate floral arabesques. Its refined shape and shimmering lustre give it a striking appearance, reminiscent of the Moorish artistic heritage of the time. The accompanying bowl, with two handles, was designed for functional use, likely intended for serving food. Its decoration features floral motifs, inspired by the concept of paradise in Islamic art, as well as geometric shapes that enhance its visual appeal. The iridescent glaze adds depth and charm to the bowls intricate design. The plate measures 18 cm in diameter. Both items show some surface wear on the enamel, consistent with their age, and the bowl handles have been re-attached. Despite these imperfections, both pieces remain in good overall condition. They carry additional significance as they were previously owned by renowned ceramics expert Henry Sandon, with his collection sticker still present on the back. We recommend viewing all the photos before buying. We are also happy to answer any questions to help you make the right decision. Thank you for considering this piece from Taliesin Antiques.
