Description: HO Lionel 0561 M&STL Husky Switcher Diesel Locomotive Rotary Snow Plow Almost two years ago, my father passed and left me a collection of model railroad locomotives, cars and track. Much of it was damaged, but amongst the locomotives, I found this little engine that appeared to be largely intact. Being largely ignorant of what it was, I took it to a local Model Train show where I was able to determine that it was a Minneapolis & St. Louis Husky Switcher Diesel Locomotive with a Rotary Snow Plow attachment on the front. Unfortunately, the interior portion of the snow plow piece was missing, leaving the outer shell attached to the front of the locomotive. Further inspection determined the following:Locomotive is considered to be a Diesel Switcher Locomotive for the Minneapolis & St. Louis line, number #0561.The shell of the locomotive is largely intact. It appears there were steps on the rear, but they look to have broken off over time. There is wear on the shell, but it retains the horns on either side of the engine, in front of the engineering cabin. As indicated, the snow plow shell is intact, but the interior portion is missing. Unsure whether this part can be sourced. When the shell was removed to reveal the engine, the motor was found to be in surprisingly good condition with little rust or corrosion. What corrosion / rust was found was buffed out and the front and rear axles were also buffed to provide better contact with the track. There does not appear to be any damage to the linkage. The rear hook and horn coupler was damaged (see first few images) but it was replaced with a matching coupler so it can be used to haul freight cars. When the locomotive was tested on a powered track, it took off immediately and moved quickly both in forward and reverse. For a 40+ year old engine, it is surprisingly quick! (See video included)BONUS: As I was going through the remaining parts of my father's collection, I found another similar motor that was not responding when tested on the track. I am unsure why it does not work (probably needs soldering with wires to connect the power to the engine. This engine also had broken couplers on front and rear, so I replaced them with matching couplers as well. In addition, I buffed the axles and cleaned the gears. For someone with knowledge on this type of motor, you might be able to get it running again!Research has found that this particular locomotive is incredibly rare and hard to find. The model railroad experts at the show agreed that this one is not easily found. So for someone who is looking for a unique and noticeable locomotive to add to your collection...consider this one! Shipping will be via US Priority Mail to ensure fast delivery. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, I have other 2-4-0 and 4-4-0 steam locomotives available if you're interested and I am willing to combine shipping on multiple orders. Good Luck!
