Hofner 500/1 70-80s [SN NONE] 70s-80s Hefner with Shark Fin PU in stock! Spruce top, maple sides & back. The neck is 1pcs maple. The fretboard is rosewood, with binding on the sides of the fretboard and no caps used in the neck heel finish. The scale is 30", nut width is about 41mm, and the PU is the original barblade type, which seems to be from the 70's to 80's because there is no Hefner logo on the PU cover and the control board is stamped 79. The back of the neck may have been refinished, as there is no serial or Made in West Germany logo on the back of the head. There are scratches, scuffs, line scratches, dents, and cracks on the body top. There are some minor picking scratches on the pickguard, but they are not noticeable. There is a crack on the body top about 6 cm long from the lower right control panel, but it is only on the surface layer, coupled with the spruce plywood. There is also a similar crack on the lower left side of the body top, about 10 cm in length. There are also small paint cracks around the perimeter of the body, mainly on the lower edge. The entire top of the body is dotted with small dents. The sides of the body have small dents, line scratches, and scuffs, mainly on the lower part of the body. On the body back, there is a fine cloudy buckle scratch on the right neck. There are paint gaps and cracks on both neck binding areas. There are line scratches, scuffs, and small dents around the perimeter of the body back, mainly on the lower part. There is a paint gap at the neck joint, and the paint is peeling at the side of the 4th string on the top of the body in a length of about 1.5 cm. The strap pin on the heel of the neck has a crack due to tightening, but it is not a problem for use. There are some small dents scattered around the periphery of the head. The PU escutcheon mounting screw and PU height adjustment screw have deteriorated plating. Other hardware has some scratches, but is in good working order. The neck is in good condition, and the truss rod can be tightened or loosened. There are no string marks on the frets and about 70% of the strings are left. Currently, the string height is adjusted at about 2.5mm on the 12F 6th string side and about 2.0mm on the 1st string side. However, it is impossible to lower the string height at the bridge, but it is easy to play for a Hefner. Overall, the guitar has some signs of age and use, but playability is well maintained. The strings are flat-wound, which is a common practice in many cases, but the normal height of the strings on this model is a point that should not be overlooked. The hollow body makes it sound like a wood bass when muted with a fat sound. The string height is also set lower than other basses, making this one for many players to try! Weight 2.13kg Neck condition is fine. The truss rod can be adjusted to tighten or loosen.
