Description: From the Aava series and with the etched mark of the artist Markku Salo comes this exquisite Modernist grey transparent glass oblong vase from Iitala of Finland. It has a flat bottom upon which the vase rests, an asymmetrical slanted opening. This series was made in the 1990s. It measures about 10 1/4" L x 5 3/4" W x 3 1/2" H. The condition of this piece is excellent - no chips, cracks, just minor scratches on the visible surfaces; one tiny fleabite around bottom of rim, some scratching and some wear underneath at base where it has been moved around. In the designer's words: The starting point for the design of this series of vases was to utilize one of Iiatala's strengths - high-quality, extremely clear glass. I wanted to achieve a very pure and smooth surface, like that possessed by bare bed-rock and the open sea. I have borrowed the shape of the vases from shells and rocks from the shore. I knew the work would test both the craftsmanship of the glassblowing and the material itself". I do not have the original box, and the sticker is long gone. Please see all pictures for condition and details. Enjoy!
