Onyx is the anniversary gemstone for the 7th year of marriage and Black Onyx is the anniversary gemstone for the 10th year of marriage. The word onyx was used by ancient Romans for a wide variety of stones including Alabaster, Chalcedony and Onyx Marble. The word sardonyx is derived from the Greek, sard meaning reddish brown and onyx meaning veined gem.
